Missy, In 2006 our employees gave us a good chunk of $$$ in a Kiva account as a gift at our Holiday party. We have made loans, gotten it back and reloaned it again several times over the last few years. It is really great to feel like you are helping people get started in businesses that improve life for families!! (I always pick women too!!) Lauree
i love that y'all are doing that! and, i have to say, it doesn't surprise me in the least--you are so ahead of the curve in all ways of positive social change. i did pick women specifically, then i felt bad about it--i'm sure men need loans, too, but somehow i really felt for a woman trying to introduce exotic spices like cinnamon or nutmeg into her village, or for the single mom that wants to sell makeup to support her kids. all the stories were interesting.
everyone is getting a kiva gift certificate from us this year (although some of those will have to be paired with an actual tangible item, as they may not quite get it...). love, m.
