even being the fifth largest state in area, new mexico has not needed a second area code to offset the multiplicity of fax, cell and land line numbers floating around until recently. so now if you are calling anywhere other than albuquerque, santa fe or the four corners area you need to dial 575 instead of 505...but if you forget and dial 505 it's all good because that will still work for another year or so. yay progress!
