this is evan carter, the oldest child and only son of one of our closest friends in iowa city. evan died in his sleep at his apartment in ann arbor a few nights ago, most likely from complications of type one diabetes. he was 20. he was a tremendous human being with a great passion for life. he did well in school, was double-majoring in economics and spanish, was curious, happy, fun, loving, sweet to gus, and just an all-around wonderful kid/young man. we are all absolutely devastated for keith, cheryl and erin's loss. rich just flew to iowa city to be with them.
this picture was taken a year ago when he was chosen as a cover model for "the ann arbor news" m edition's portrait of a university, highlighting interesting people attending university of michigan.
evan came over to my house a few years ago, saw all my african violets (they were even these exact plants), and told me about how he was cloning them at school. he seemed to enjoy it immensely.
We are heartbroken by the Carter's loss. We knew Evan was he was a pre-schooler. He was my son's best friend then. He was a happy, cute, funny kid. We loved having him over to play with our son and thought the world of him.
